BOWLEES VISITOR CENTRE
Bowlees Visitor Centre is run by the North Pennines National Landscape team, and is a gateway to the North Pennines National Landscape and UNESCO Global Geopark. Here you can find information about things to see and do across the North Pennines, take part in our nature and landscape themed events, and explore the site. It is a great place to start exploring the surrounding countryside of Upper Teesdale.

Coghlans at Barningham has been created by Janet Coghlan to focus on premium quality food and service in all aspects of hospitality and catering.
SCARGILL CASTLE
Scargill Castle nestles in the beautiful Teesdale landscape close to the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built in 1550 on the site of an earlier medieval castle, it has recently been restored from a crumbling ruin into a delightful retreat for two which combines historic character with all the cosiness and comfort expected in the 21st century.
THE VILLAGE BOOKSHOP
The Village Bookshop is in Middleton-in-Teesdale in County Durham. It is run entirely by volunteers as a charitable Trust. Profits are used to raise funds for local groups.
THE WITHAM
The Witham, with its grand neoclassical façade, lends distinction to Barnard Castle’s market place. It was founded in 1846 as a Mechanics’ Institute and People’s Dispensary, with a spacious Music Hall added to the complex in 1860. Since then it has evolved through changing times, making a huge contribution to the health, education and well-being of the people of Barnard Castle and Teesdale.
HAPPY HIKER
Provides free simple to follow directions for various walking routes, including GPS downloads and gives basic advice on a variety of walking issues.
NORTH PENNINES NATIONAL LANDSCAPE
This is one of England's most special places - a stunning landscape of open heather moors and peat lands, attractive dales and hay meadows, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, welcoming communities, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past, distinctive birds, animals and plants and much, much more. The North Pennines National Landscape is also a European and Global Geopark - highlighting its globally important Earth heritage.

Northumberland
NORTHUMBERLAND COAST AONB
The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is among the finest landscapes in the country. The AONB was designated in 1958 and covers 39 miles of coast from Berwick to the Coquet estuary. Within this stretch of coastline is some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Europe.
NORTHUMBERLAND NATIONAL PARK
Northumberland National Park is the northernmost national park in England. It covers an area of more than 1030 km² between the Scottish border in the north to just south of Hadrian's Wall. It is one of the least populated and least visited of the National Parks. The park lies entirely within Northumberland, covering about a quarter of the county.
