FOREST OF BOWLAND AONB
The Forest of Bowland AONB covers a large area, of which 31 square miles (80 square km) is in Craven. Well-wooded and dotted with picturesque stone farms and villages, these lower slopes, criss-crossed by drystone walls.

HOWARDIAN HILLS AONB
The Howardian Hills covers 79 square miles (204 square km). It is a unique and captivating landscape with its well-wooded rolling countryside, patchwork of arable and pasture fields, scenic villages and historic country houses with classic parkland landscapes.
NIDDERDALE AONB
Nidderdale AONB covers 233 square miles (603 square km). It boasts remote fells, managed grouse moors, crags and reservoirs.

NORTH YORK MOORS NATIONAL PARK
The North York Moors National Park was established in 1952 and covers an area of 554 square miles (1,436 square km). It contains the largest expanse of heather moorland in England and Wales covering an area of over 170 square miles (440 square km) and it has one of the largest concentrations of ancient and veteran trees in northern England.
RYEDALE NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY
The Society was formed on 2nd December 1963 and is based on the administrative district of Ryedale. It is responsible for 800 kilometre squares with Kirkbymoorside at an approximate centre. Our area is defined by the northern watershed running from Black Hambleton to Saltersgate; the Whitby to Thornton-le-Dale road to the east and the drove road along the edge of the Hambleton Hills to the west. Our southern boundary is less easy to describe but generally includes the Howardian Hills as far as Malton and the Kirkham Gorge.
YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK
The Yorkshire Dales National Park was established in 1954 and covers an area of 680 square miles (1,762 square km) straddling the central Pennines in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria. It has spectacular scenery, a rich cultural heritage and is a haven for wildlife, perfect for recreation and peaceful relaxation.
